Alternator AC DELCO or Duralast
I'd suggest doing the Petroworks CS130 mount kit paired with an AC Delco 88877221. This is the setup I have in my Samurai and it is working great for my needs. Note that while that alternator part number has the correct pulley for the Samurai, the clocking of the housing is not correct so you do have to re-clock the front housing. Also, I would suggest adding a separate direct power output from the alternator to your battery and increasing the size of the battery ground as the stock wiring was not sized for a 100A alternator.
Remy and AC Delco are good. I have never had any issues with WAI parts and I had not had any real issues with BBB until very recently.
I had the AC Delco alternator (an OEM part) in my 1994 Saturn SL2 rebuilt in 2015 by Alternator & Starter Co. At the time, no new OEM or aftermarket alternators were available for a Saturn that old, and the guru who advised me on Saturn repairs told me I would have better luck with a local rebuild rather than a commercially remanufactured replacement.
I'm showing a new acdelco 135amp alternator for roughly $163 plus shipping through rockauto.
Acdelco is oem for GM. They make high-quality parts, never been disappointed by one.
I’ve never had an issue with a Duralast starter or alternator. However, honestly, I probably wouldn’t put one on my Lexus. I’ve generally shoved them into cheaper and simpler cars.
Honestly, even the AC Delco quality is questionable.
I started having problems like my alternator was going bad again so I replaced it with a duralast alternator part number DL2618-6-11 because I had a lifetime warranty on it and it still didn't fix it so I was thinking it may be a wire shorting out was playing around with the wires that go to the alternator and the plug on the back that goes from the alternator to the PCM and it's started charging again ( I guess it finally connected the electricity) so I replaced the plug on the back of the alternator. It fixed it work for about a month then it happen again check charging system battery light on and battery going dead so I was done. I took it to the Ford place they wanted to replace the other side of the PCM to alternator connector which they did and the alternator so I got another AutoZone lifetime warranty alternator and when they did that they said everything is charging and running like it is supposed to be but your PCM is still throwing the battery light and check charging system because your alternator is charging at 14v and for the PCM to cut the light off it needs to be at 14.6 v. So they wanted to put another alternator on it because they said the alternator from autozone the voltage regulator wouldn't let it go to 14.6 volts. The car runs and drives and doesn't have any problems I just hate the light being on to be honest I have spent hours on the Internet trying to see if it's just these AutoZone alternators that aren't letting it get to the volts the PCM wants or not haven't found anything.
Duralast are shit alternator. See it time and time again people buy them and have more problems afterwards.
I burned up 4 of the duralast Gold GM 12si alternators while they were still under warranty, if I had to venture a guess it would be they don't like high RPM . I removed them from two of my samurai's and went back to stock, haven't had a problem since
I went through 3 duralast nators on my wife's exploder before I got one that lasted more than 6mos. Aftermarket everything has mostly gone to shit.
