Battery Varta or AC DELCO
I’ve had good luck with the VW OEM Varta batteries.
I put in ACDelco and surprisingly it lasted till last week (Aug 2024).
The AcDelco I installed in 2021 December died this morning so I'd say it's good. It lasted almost 3 years and I only park outside + have a whole sound system + aftermarket horns.
I wasn’t happy with the replacement options for the old Mercury batteries. So, I stumbled upon the Varta V80H—a battery usually used in servers—and I built a charger for it. It’s the perfect match: it has good discharge characteristics, high capacity, slow self-discharge, and it's rechargeable!
I'd recommend AC Delco - had 2 batteries from Repco (made by century) for my VZ Commodore Wagon and returned them both for dropped cells within a month of fitting - had no issues with the AC Delco at all, even leaving the car sitting for over two weeks it still started first turn of the key
I get all my batteries in Screwfix. They do Varta brand which are exceptionally good for the price.
I got ten years on a Varta in my MB 212. When I changed it out I was really surprised it was the original w/97k on it.
Varta is pretty good
Replaced battery in my 2012 Chrysler 200 - after being in car 12 years - yes original battery - bought car off show room floor. Replaced with AC Delco 580 CCA - as per manufactures specs - exactly 2 months to the date - battery absolutely DEAD !!!!!!
In my old Audi, I had a non-OEM battery and I did the +1 in the serial number trick. That battery failed in a couple of months. I honestly think it was a bad unit.
