Oil filter Fram or AC DELCO
I used this filter for continuously my 83 Audi coupe. i did 4 oil changes a year until she finally died back in January. I had this car for 8 years 160 000km. Never once did I have any sort of oil-related problem.
Just changed the oil in my 08 Jetta. went to Advance Auto parts and picked up 6 quarts of Mobile 1 0W 40 and a Fram oil filter.
OEM is best for the 1.8T, larger filter, more ooil, better flow. FRAM is not good for your 1.8T-problems.
I guess after 24 years and almost 300k miles I should have realized that using Fram filters was a bad idea. I added a factory oil cooler to my GTI to deal with the additional thermal load caused by my turbocharger. I has been very effective in dropping oil temperatures and has not significantly raised my coolant temperatures (I added a cooler fan switch as well), it's a great way to go.
Yes, the Mobil1-301, the Mann W940/25, the Purolator L30257, and the Fram PH3569 are all equivalent in capacity (though most people say the Fram is not equivalent in quality).
If you heard strange noises, then you must have been using FRAM
my experience was on my monte carlo ss, the oil pressure flickered and went through the roof, something happened with the filter and almost caused me to blow my motor, i tried another one for about an hour or so and sure enough it happened again. changed to a different brand, worked fine. my buddies dad who is an avid car collector and builds race cars told me after the incident occured that those filters are crap.
Fram makes a decent filter for everone else but not for VWs. Something about the cold start bypass valve not working well, or something.
DON'T put an FRAM filter! They are crap! Complete! When you remove an FRAM oil filter the filtering element (paper) comes off all mashed up as cellulose goo, then you know FRAM is a piece of crap!
i used to run fram on my other cars... just hold a mann next to it and you'll see which one is garbage.
