New starter (Bosch) (Late 2017)
some starters may have a resistor bypass connection.. that when the solenoid plunger is pulled in.. the R terminal is connected to cranking battery power.. this wire is hooked to the coil positive.. where the other wire to the coil positive comes thru a resistor.. this allows the coil to get higher voltage while cranking.
So, after a fun summer and fall of some great worry free driving something came up.... it wouldn't start properly. So naturally I took the battery to advanced auto parts to test it, it worked fine and passed, then tested the starter, and was reading a bit slow, can't quite remember the cranking speed but it was in the low 100's RPM. So after days of having to pop start the car, yes I know.... poor clutch! I got a brand new REMAN Bosch starter, and installed it. For the next two days it started just fine
The starter is a Bosch premium re-manufactured unit and tested good before I put it in.
After testing, 14.8 v at the starter when cranking is better than the .7 volt drop before! and now there's no battery drain!
Yes - works great, spins the engine so easy. And no stupid bearing to mess with to boot.
This thing turns it over very easily - good move. Old vs. New: The new one is a little longer, but my car has never started so easily.
One replacement Bosch starter later and it fired up almost immediately.
these are remanufactured VW/Bosch parts redistributed by autozone. IMPORTANT!!! the whole job took me aboiut 3 hrs....cause i'm a newby VW garage mechanic, but it went off/on with no issues really. she starts better than ever. the starter is smooth as hell.
Go for the reman Bosch. They should call it Neverlast or Durajunk
