OEM Nissan CVT transmission

I got a 2013 Altima... it’s at 170k miles and never had any mechanical issues. It’s all anecdotal but my experience was good

Pros: no mechanical issues, good experience
Vehicle: Nissan Altima
Mileage: 170000 km

OEM Nissan Alternator
throw_away_TX
Rating 4.0
  • Warning light:

My 2005 Altima used to eat alternators. The first and second replacement were rebuilds or aftermarket, I don't remember the order. I finally paid for an OEM and that one lasted until I sold the vehicle a few years later. This is one of those parts that is better to stick with OEM replacements.

Pros: OEM lasted longer
Cons: aftermarket failed quickly
Vehicle: Nissan Altima

KYB Strut assembly

About 8 years ago I replaced the OEM struts on my Nissan Altima with KYB. They were still pretty tight (with no apparent leaks) when I got rid of the car about 5 years and 85,000 miles later. Granted, that mileage was probably 90% commuting on SoCal highways.

Pros: pretty tight, no leaks
Vehicle: Nissan Altima
Mileage: 136794 km

OEM Nissan Spark plug
Brett92
Rating 5.0
  • Starting:

Installed new plugs. Probably took 30 minutes - very simple - thanks Nissan! The original plugs which I am embarrassed to say went 123K miles came out very easy so I saw no need.

Pros: very simple installation
Mileage: 123000 km

Bosch Spark plug
ZirbMonkey
Rating 4.0
  • Starting:
  • Idle:

So I grab a new ignition coil, and a full set (4) of spark plugs. The Pre-gapped BOSCH Iridium plugs were the same price as OEM platinum, so I figured that's fine for me.

After pulling the plugs, Cylinder 1 plug was definitely eroded. The other 3 plugs looked fine, but I might as well replace the lot. The new Ignition Coil went into Cylinder 1 as well, and I started it up.

Check engine light went off, starts up fine, drives fine, idles fine.

Pros: starts fine, drives fine
Cons: cylinder 1 plug eroded
Mileage: 150000 km
