OEM Volkswagen Fuel filter

If you treat it right, the vw will outlast the Honda easily. If you're not going to be able to keep up with oil/ fluid/ dsg/ fuel filter etc... then you should get the Honda.

Pros: long lasting, awesome rides
Cons: requires correct maintenance intervals

  • Hesitation:

The car has 220k km on now, and VW has had to replace the high pressure fuel pump twice (2019 and 2021), and the in tank fuel pump once while dealing with random misfire issue that has since been sorted by yearly fuel filter replacement - fuel quality in my country is very bad.

Pros: sorted misfire issue
Cons: fuel quality very bad
Mileage: 220000 km

OEM Volkswagen Fuel filter

  • Hesitation:

I really didn't think changing the fuel filter in my GLI would make much difference, particular seeing as the fuel inside the old filter looked perfectly fine. But wow, after a couple days, what a difference. I'd had some slowly-worsening issues with throttle response, particularly at low speed -- starting from a stop while engaging the clutch, or accelerating at low speed in gear. The car would bog a bit and then surge, unless I modulated the clutch and gave more throttle than I really should. Those problems immediately went away after the fuel filter change. This was at 55,000 miles. I think I'm going to have to start changing the fuel filter at about 40,000.

Pros: improved throttle response, fixed bogging and surging
Mileage: 88514 km
Part number: 1K0 201 051 K

POWER SERVICE Fuel filter

We do have additives / blended fuel during the winter at the pumps in Canada so you don't really need to worry but last winter I did get stuck because it was so cold for 2 days straight (over the weekend) and I didn't start the car till Monday that the fuel gelled up in the filter.

Pros: additives blended fuel
Cons: fuel gelled up

I started to look at the fuel filter that I put in and noticed that people have been talking about different pressure regulators in the filters, I thought that maybe I put in the wrong one and someone else had done this before. So I changed the filter out for the latest VW OEM 6.6 Bar filter. Again this made an slight improvement

Pros: slight improvement

Bosch Fuel filter

I opened the Fuel Filter Housing up and noticed the Bosch Fairy had stopped by and littered my system with metal fairy dust. I dropped a magnet into the housing and pulled out plenty of extremely fine metal dust.

Pros: easy to check
Cons: metal dust in system
Mileage: 175000 km

Duralast Fuel filter

It was a pain in the ass gettin the lines off with pushing and pulling etc. I had a oem filter on there. Right now I just got one from autozone for the sake of being cheap. Duralast. With my discount was like 10$ Anyway its all back in there and snug. However the return line to the engine is clipped on and doesn't move if pulled unless released by pushing the clip in. But the line from the tank can just be pulled off. It's almost as if the clip isn't functional anymore. Both sides are pushed as far as they will go. I turned it on. Let it run for a few minutes. Didn't notice any leaks.. I can't see the line just "coming off". But it can come off without pushing in the clip if pulled hard enough..

Pros: cheap price
Cons: difficult installation, loose connection
