Dobinsons Leaf springs
DJJbird09
Rating 5.0
  • Sagging:
  • Creaks:

Dobinson leaf's for your rear and their struts made for it. I did this for my Tacoma and absolutely love it.

Dobinson leafs and rear struts give me 2-2.25inches of lift depending on the weight in the back. 0 issues with the Dobinson leafs, no squeaks, comfortable ride and 0 sag.

Pros: comfortable ride, 0 sag
Cons: none
Vehicle: Toyota

ARB Leaf springs
itchy9000
Rating 5.0
  • Harsh ride:

i am very happy with my old man emu nitrocharger shocks and matched ARB coil and leaf springs. it's fantastic off-road but on-road the ride quality is unbelievable. My truck suddenly rides like a heavy Mercedes sedan where you find yourself driving 95 mph without noticing. The braking distance is shorter too.

Pros: fantastic off-road, shorter braking
Cons: dog needs helmet

OLD MAN EMU Leaf springs
W0ABE
Rating 4.5
  • Harsh ride:

I did the exact same thing (OME med duty) on my 92 3VZE. It took way longer than expected, was a huge PITA but the change in how my truck handles and looks made it well worth the effort.

Pros: improved handling, better looks
Cons: difficult installation
Vehicle: Toyota

OEM Chevrolet Leaf springs
tand86
Rating 4.0
  • Creaks:

I prefer it over the 6.2 for sure. It does not sound as good, but it\u2019s not a race car. My 24\u2019 zr2 has plenty of power for a truck. 7k miles only issue so far was with the rear leaf springs.

Pros: plenty of power
Cons: issue with leaf springs
Vehicle: Chevrolet
Mileage: 11265 km

OLD MAN EMU Leaf springs

Those appear to be Old Man Emu springs, if they are then they are fine. I worked for ARB for 9 years (I don’t anymore) during which time they developed a new leaf spring system designed to give better comfort and on road compliance and that shape is the result

Pros: better comfort, on road compliance

Dobinsons Leaf springs
DJJbird09
Rating 3.0
  • Sagging:

I originally went with 5100s and an inch block and hated the leveled look on my truck. I instead went with Dobinson leaf's and their version of struts made for 2 inches of lift so now I'm 2x2.

Pros: 2 inches of lift
Cons: hated the leveled look
Vehicle: Toyota

Mitsuboshi Leaf springs

A friend of mine has a '97 Montero Sport 3.0 V6/Auto. It's surprisingly good off road; he makes snow up in Northern NH for the winters and he's driven it up the slopes and through deep packed snow and it's always made it though. It's in decent shape and has lower mileage (130k or so), but it's starting to rust though on the bottom of the rear quarter panels. The under body and frame all have quite the bit of rust, and he's replaced everything brake wise (including lines) in the last 6 months or so. It gets terrible fuel economy even for an SUV, the earlier 3.0s have very low power and torque. Interior space is okay, it's decently comfortable. I believe the largest issue he's had with it so far in 2 years is both rear leaf springs have snapped some leaves, which appears to be a common issue. I think due to a poor previous repair, the clearcoat on the driver's fender and door is peeling.

Pros: good off road, decent comfortable
Cons: terrible fuel economy, low power
Vehicle: Mitsubishi Montero Sport
Mileage: 130000 km

OLD MAN EMU Leaf springs

My BP-51s and Dakar leafs are noisy as fuck, it sounds like a rust bucket. I power wash them regularly and reapply grease/lube and it still squeaks and creaks. They were fine for a year but as soon as I have some time I'm going with something else. The shocks and front suspension is great, though.

Pros: shocks, front suspension great
Cons: noisy, squeaks and creaks
