wildpeak. Had used ones with minimal tread, they were fantastic. I could tow uphill on gravel through the snow in 2wd.
Owner reviews for tires
I had General Altimax Arctic 12s for 2 years and didn’t switch them out in the summer. Surprisingly great performance on all the dirt roads and still held traction on their second winter season.
Goodyear Assurance Weather Ready. Liking these tires in the snow.
I put Wildpeaks on my 2005 Yukon XL Denali and drove them around northern CO and WY. Quite liked them. Definitely quiet enough for daily driver use, but they did well on the dirt roads and in the sand hills of North Park near Walden as well. Even took them over Rabbit Ears to Steamboat in the ice and snow and they did great.
I’ve had both on a DD, however I never drove my duratracs in snow so I can’t speak to that.
I’d go AT3W, they performed great on dry/wet pavement, snow, dirt, mud, etc and were notedly quieter than duratracs.
I've had both tires in E-rated 285/75-16 flavor on my 100-series Land Cruiser. Got the Wildpeaks back in 2016 a few months after they first came out; still have those tires currently with about 60k on them and they only look half worn, no cupping, between 5-8k mile tire rotations (5-tire).
We have/had Duratracs on (4) of our vehicles currently. 99’ F250, 98’ TJ, 04’ LJ & 14’ JK.
I won’t run another tire unless i get a good reason. Started running them after a guy who owns a snow removal business said they worked better than any other tire on his fleet trucks.
Amazing traction. Great in the snow/ice. (West Michigan) Good tread life. Tough tire offroad.
I had nokian wrg4s on my subaru before selling the car my gf has michelin crossclimate2s on hers, both are excellent.
when you have no experience with quality, everything new and fresh will appeal...
it's the same with new tires - why so many people get zeetex or arisun since they can get "new" set of 4 for the price of a single premium tire. But they will also never know the difference in quality and keep telling left and right that the tire is great... (in comparison to no tire at all).
Switched from Continental Der Baron 2.6" to Dhf/Dhr (3c maxxterra) 2.8" combo. DHR has less grip on uphill and roots, which is really annoying after expecting something great, because everyone loves these tyres...
