Engine oil Castrol or VALVOLINE
I run German (Belgian) Castrol, which comes in a 0w-40 or 0w-30 weight. In general, it's better than the US spec stuff that sage149 posted because Europe has stricter oil standards than the US and it holds better certifications like MB229.5. I mainly run the 0w-40, and while I only have 13k miles, it does include 4 track days and the oil level doesn't change in between oil changes.
I use Castrol Edge 5W-40; works just fine
Glad to be of help helmyv5. In one message, I mentioned I'd try a more expensive oil next time. I've now been running Castrol EDGE FST-Ti for the last two oil change intervals. Normally, oils are very hard to tell apart from one another (Like how the engine sounds, gas mileage, other \"seat of the pants\" stuff) But, this time I can definitely spot one difference, which is noticeably less sludge in the PCV system than with the Helix Ultra.
Castrol Edge Professional 0W-20 seems to be the VAG recommended oil for their 508.00 requirements. Everything I’ve read about the 0w oil has been positive as it holds up extremely well in cold weather and severe heat.
I buy the Castrol Edge OE 5w30 that DAP sells and change the oil preemptively, always with VW brand filters. Has all the VW certs necessary, is what VW uses, and doesn't break the bank.
I've been using Valvoline #VV966 VW502-approved full synthetic 5W40 MST on our Audi and the GSW. Works well, no issues.
at 30K and third oil change @ 10K, my oil analysis went to the waste oil furnace, it said the oil was perfect. First change @10K was Castrol 0W40, last two were Mobil 1 0W40.
Either Mobil 1 or Castrol GTX - never had oil issues with either one.
I run Valvoline simply because when I got my Civic people recommended it. Hasn't given me any troubles yet even in my Miata.
For my Ford I use motorcraft because it's oem.
For my high mileage Honda I've been experimenting with how the oil "looks" after a change. I know it's not technical but the valvoline oil seems to hold up well.
