Engine oil LIQUI MOLY or PENNZOIL
I usually buy Pennzoil, it's inexpensive and it works. I check the contents first to make sure the oil isn't full of gunk in case someone swapped it. I do oil change every 5k km, which is once every 2-3 months, hence I don't worry much about too much gunk as I flush it out often.
My 2015 1.8 used to drink a piss load of oil when I first got it at about 100k miles. I switched to Liquid Moly or Mobil 5w40 every 7500 miles and it stopped on it’s own.
I use the Penzoil Platinum Euro LX Full Synthetic 0W-30. No issues past 2 oil changes.
The oil for our car is VW 504.00/ VW507.00 the 504 spec is 0W/30 and the 507 is 5W/30 only difference is fuel economy and the 5W/30 is the better choice i have used Penzoil Euro Lx for 0W/30 and oil does get by rings so might see puff of smoke on initial start, but with the 5W/30 Total nothing.
Liqui-Moly Leichtlauf 5w40 FTMFW! Switched at \~30k and now going on 90k...both run smooth as silk and don't burn any oil at all...
I used the correct spec 0w20 for 150,000 miles and then switched to 5w30. We’re at 208,000 miles now and running great. Always LiquiMolly
You're going to be fine with 5w40 the thinner oil is for fuel economy but heavier oil will make your car last longer so that's the tradeoff.... If you are in a warmer climate then a lower starting weight would matter but I'm in Canada and I'll be running 5w40 liqui moly all year every year.
Also will help with oil consumption.
Been using Liqui-Moly 4200 5w30 and I don't lose/burn any oil (yet).
I too have a 2013 passat with the CKRA, I’m currently at 175k miles. I do my oil change every 7500 miles. I only use liqui-moly top tech 4200 5w-30. I usually never have to add oil between changes unless a lot of hard driving in the summer.
I've noticed going from cheap synthetic 5W-30 to Liquimoly 5W-40 seemed to help a little with my intermittent light issues.
