Engine oil Mobil or Castrol
Yeap, running it in my 2.0 8v rright now. Will switch to M1 10w-30 or 10w-40 this summer, back to T6 in winter. Got 206K miles on the car.
i tryed the castrol edge sport 10w-60 and its working great (very smooth & quiet,etc... any way better than the 4w-40)
always ran castrol gtx diesel 15w-40 in my old 1.5 no real reason but when i bought the car it came with a case in the trunk so i just kept at it. motor never had a problem, and it ended up getting swapped into my buddy's rabbit and boosted.
Edge 5w-30 did great for me. It's a great product, turning in the best 1.8t UOA I ever saw. There are PLENTY of great products dirt cheap on our shelves. I personally feel SynPower is most worth of my money, on a full price basis. Otherwise, I'll buy any other NAME BRAND synth when its' $4 or so. I actually nabbed a bunch of Quaker State 5w-40 from BigLots for $4ea. QS is a sleeper oil, esp at the right price. High moly too, great for break-in.
I used Edge in my APR 2.0TSI over winter, did a lab report and wear was minimal, actually the same as a Motul 5w-40 sample from the same mileage.
Just stick with Mobil 1 0w-40. It's VW-approved and covers just about all operating conditions. There's a reason it's factory-fill on Porsches and Mercedes AMG vehicles
GC 0W30 is PAO based oil. PAO and Ester based oils are much more stable and clean engines much better. People who need 502.00 approved oil simplly LOVE that thing!
I am sticking with 0W30. Plus, it is better for cold start, which is one of the most important things!
Castrol 0W30 Made in germany, or as it is best known "German castrol." It is "thick" 0W30 more going toward 0W40. It is thermaly very stable oil. I used it on Passat B5.5 1.8T (2005) and there is more then obvius difference between "GC" and regular Castrol 5W40. GC so far is the best I used it.
My last Oil change was using 5w-30 conventional oil. Which is much different than the 5w-20 Syn that VW uses.
