Engine oil Mobil or PENNZOIL
Used Mobil 1 in all my Toyotas for the last 20 years. My dad's Scion xB is close to 400k miles running strong.
Stick with 5W50. Brand doesn’t matter as long as it’s a quality supplier. I used Mobil 1 in the beginning
Always used M1 on my 30 year old Celica/camry. They both run flawlessly. Done over 30 changes on the Celica (160k miles)
I jumped on the Pennzoil Ultra Plat bandwagon and have no complaints.
I actually switched from Mobil1 Full Synthetic in my Tacoma, which I have been running since new, to Penzoil Platinum based on some recommendations and investigation. At least in the case of a 2015 Tacoma with less than 60,000 Miles I noticed that my valve train is a lot quieter now.
Mobil 1 has never failed me over 3 Wrx’s and 1 Brz and an old forester
I’ve only used this Mobil1 oil for my 21 Camry SE. I do 5k intervals and it’s been great for the past 60K.
My 13 Ram 5.7, use only 5w20 penz ultra plat, with lubeguard biotech and boss oil filter. I have the truck tuned, turned off the cyl deactivation since it had 30k miles, zero tick. But, I feel the oil pump makes more difference for the hemi tick issue. My truck has a good oil pump, 60s and 70 psi on freeway and startup.
Yes, you can certainly use 506.01 in your TDI and it's used in many TDIs around the world. However, based upon some of the UOAs offered up, I'd suggest moving to 507.00. The 506.01 has shown relatively high wear metals.
Fellas, Don't bother running Mobil1 for extended period of time. I have done 2 consecutive oil tests on Mobil1 0W-40. One with 6200 miles and the other was at 4700 miles. Used OEM filters in both cases. Results: With the 6200 mile drain interval, the iron and the lead levels were up there through the roof! With the 4700 mile drain interval, the iron was within average and the lead was couple of points above the average.
