Engine oil Mobil or VALVOLINE
Valvoline 20w-50 works great
I use Valvoline Extended Protection, it's really good stuff
There was a dude on YouTube that did a test. Mobil 1 performed the best, followed very closely by Amazon basics
Man, just changed out the oil in my 2000 Crown Victoria Police interceptor yesterday with this. I HAVE USED THIS VERY OIL for close to 20 years. My shit runs as good as it has since I first drove it out of the Orange count sheriff's dept, Parole dept. auction lot. Never use anything else.
When it comes to brands most good brands work fine like Mobil 1, Castrol, Valvoline and so on. All these oils even including the cheaper amazon brand oils have been tested by the American petroleum institute and they have a stamp on every bottle.
Since then, I've changed my oil to a low SAPS VW 504 Mobil 1 5w30 ESP X3 which according to lubrizol has superior resistance to deposit and sludge formation. At this point, I've got consumption down to around 1qt/1400 mi which is a great improvement from where it was before. Hoping for further improvements with time but pleased with progress.
I’m slowly switching to Mobil1 since I started doing oil analysis.
It has no sodium and therefore a good way to see if there is a coolant leak.
Valvoline VR1 for the track car. Valvoline VR-1 is a very highly reviewed oil with a high zinc content to keep race engines running with very minimal wear.
I believe the final takeaway was that Valvoline Max protection was the best
Yes, you can certainly use 506.01 in your TDI and it's used in many TDIs around the world. However, based upon some of the UOAs offered up, I'd suggest moving to 507.00. The 506.01 has shown relatively high wear metals.
