Shock absorbers Bilstein or Rough Country
It now drives much better than stock suspensions with air springs Also, Its now returned to a "factory" Prado. ????????
Upon disassembly, I found the KYB Excel-G shocks were completely shot and offered no rebound. I installed Bilstein B4 "Touring Class" units. The no-name aftermarket strut bearings weren't doing the suspension any favors either and I was glad to get the new German Febi units. So far, so good
Looking at potentially going with Bilstein B6 shocks/struts and Steeda Ultra-Lite springs combo, as I've heard great things about each part/company individually though I haven't seen any reviews of them used in tandem, at least on the 2005-2014s.
Look into Eibach shocks. I have bilstein 5100 on front with eibach in rear. I like them at the price point and they are like a 5100 but they dial down the harshness.
N3s are nice for on road driving. They offer a plush ride. Everyone says go Bilstein 5100, and while they do perform better off-road, they are noticeably firmer on the street.
It’s firm but not rough and it handled wheeling around Southern Colorado and NW New Mexico just fine, even fully loaded. I’m beyond impressed considering the cost.
It's surprisingly nice. Somehow it feels as sporty as my Forester XT. Occasionally you get a bit of "float" at highway speeds where it feels like you're in a boat or a big old Buick, but it's not uncomfortable by any means. Like riding on a cloud!
I drive on paved roads 80% of the time, it’s very smooth. No complaints, great even on hard turns
I just did the 5100's at 2". I also have a +0 offset wheel (this matters). My 275/70R17's rub the mudflap at full turn when entering a driveway.
B4s are garbage don’t listen. Mine blew in about 2 years.
