Mahle Thermostat

Rating 5.0
  • Slow warm-up:

I’ve installed Borg Wagner thermostats and those always failed until I installed a Mahle one which never failed. For some reason any other brand will get stuck open and the engine will never get up to temp.

Pros: Mahle never failed
Cons: Borg Wagner always failed

  • Slow warm-up:

I used Mahle, but I got lucky I got the German-made one (afaik now most are made in Italy). It was NOS so I expect the electrical heater (to open early) to be defect. It's been 3 years without issue though.

Pros: three years without issue
Cons: heater may be defect

  • Overheating:

I had the same exact car with same exact problem. I changed the thermostat once and it fixed it for about a year. The issue came back and I changed again and it fixed it again... So I'd say get an OEM one if you can.

Pros: fixed it for a year
Cons: issue came back
Vehicle: Honda Civic

1st Mahle. The engine only reaches up to 65 degrees and it drops further if I drive under 2000RPMs on highway for example or turn on the heating.

Cons: engine underheats, temperature drops
