Tires Continental or TIGAR
The DWS 06 Contis are very good. I run them on my daily year-round and have had zero complaints with them. They are very good for the money and a good chunk cheaper than the Michelins, though they have been creeping up a bit in price over the last few years
I liked Continental DWS06s on my G37 for the street.... they were quiet and had squishy sidewalls for comfort but were grippy AF.
My regular DWS06’s were amazing in the snow last winter.
I normally use Nokian Hakkapeliittas on my Golf and while they still have more than enough legal tread, I don't believe they're optimum for hardpacked snow. Unfortunately, there's a waitlist for new Nokians, so I'm going with Continental Wintercontacts, which have a sterling rating.
I have the Conti, corners well, good traction, pretty loud.
Continental DSW06, might be able to find older model (not the + I think) for cheaper.
Mines are Tigar Tires which are owned by Michelin, for both winter and summer. Maybe the best quality=price choice in my country.
We put Conti VikingContact 7 on the Passat last winter. They are fantastic. They've actually scared me more than once when I realized that I just drove thru stuff I should be careful on but never even noticed it.
I went through a few sets of DW's on my mk4. I finally caved and bought PSS's and will never go back. The wet performance was unreal on the DW's, but they left a lot to be desired in the dry after having some time with PSS's.
I run Conti DWSes on my A3 and I think they're abysmal with anything more than an inch of slush on the roads. More than that, once the temps get below 40 I can definitely sense them losing their grip. I haven't been overly thrilled with the Contis and don't think I'll buy them again.
