I’ve been running Toyo open country AT3 with good luck. Quiet on the pavement, indistinguishable in dry from higher end options, and really good in ice/snow.
I have had the Toyo's (3 sets) and the Geolanders (2 sets). Traction wise, it's a wash. Both do well in rain and ice. Off road is the same. The Toyo's lasted MUCH longer than the Geolanders.
I have Toyo Open Country AT3s now, and I'm always impressed with how quiet they are, given their aggressive tread. Had them for about 14k miles and they've performed well in mud, snow, and over rocks - but still feel good on the highway.
I have the Hankook ION EVO on my M3 and they are a great smooth efficient tire, they now have 6k miles on them and no signs of wear yet.
For those in the market for new tires I just put a set of the Hankook ion evo tires on the X and they are INCREDIBLE. Before throwing these tires on I was definitely of the "there's no way these foam tires are going to make a differnce" school of thought. I'm a believer.
Hankook Winter i*cept RS for 128€/tyre is reasonable and work well in snow.
I’m quite impressed by how these tires perform on wet roads even with how aggressive they are compared to other similarly aggressive all terrains like the BFGoodrich KO2 that I used to have. They also have a pretty good 70K mile warranty which is pretty great!
For those who are interested, I had the Hankook ION Evo (Summer) tires installed to replace the stock Pirelli P Zero (PZ4) Elect tires on my Tesla Model 3 Performance ('22). There are pros and cons compared to the stock Pirelli tires, in my opinion:
Pros:
- Quieter (especially on highways)
- More comfortable (damping on uneven road surfaces, but uneven road surfaces also less noticeable in the steering)
- Better grip in rain and wet conditions
- Slightly lighter steering feel
- Slightly easier full acceleration straight of the line
- More efficient (+/- 1% less battery consumption per trip)
Cons:
- Steering feel and response are less direct
- Grip during hard cornering is not great (at least, the limit is simply lower than with the Pirellis)
- Overall sportiness is diminished
My first time in the rain was the nail in the coffin it's straight up irresponsible that VW put those things on our cars. It's a shame but mine didn't last 1000mi before I got rid of them and that's only because I waited for a sale.
Only fly in the ointment seems to be the OEM tires, Hankook Kinergy GTs. I've noticed, in the very short time we've had the car, that they are noticeably noisier than the Cooper Endeavors we had on our trade in, and the Michelin Cross Climate 2s we have on our other car.
