Tires Pirelli or Continental
I run Pirelli winters on my Mk8 in Canada and they are fantastic.
I'm on my second set of Continental Extreme Contact DSW06 Plus for my XC60. I bought them because i want tires that won't let me down if I have to maneuver hard at high speed, have good heat tolerance, and have superb wet weather grip. I love these tires. They're not as soft a ride as some tires but they've never slid on me. I took my last set down to 2/32 and even then it had rock solid grip in the rain. The other nice part is that Continental warranties these to 40k miles and stands by it. I killed my last set in a little over 30k because of how I drive. They refunded me roughly 25% of what I originally paid for them which I put towards a new set. If they're still making these when the current set burns out I'll buy them again.
Consider the quiet “Continental Cross Contact LX” all season. I was surprised at their quality
Ran those Conti’s on my wife’s E63S and was very impressed.
More grip than I expected in dry and wet plus incredible ride comfort.
I’ve had DWS06+ tires on mine for over three years now and haven’t wished for either summers or winters. I live in NC where we see the whole range of weather, minus heavy snowfall. When it’s hot out, the grip exceeds my skill level so I haven’t had an issue with traction. When it’s cold out, I don’t drive like a moron so I haven’t had an issue with traction.
Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 are the answer. I've been running them 10 years in the Oregon and have driven them in 20 degree conditions with no snow. No issues as long as you're not trying to treat it as a canyon run.
They handle great in the rain and even better in the sun.
I'm running the Pirelli AS+3 at 225 40 r18. A noticeably quieter tire coming from the stock Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Feeling wise they're definitely all season tires, in that they feel less precise (don't feel initial turn in as much as with the summer tires). However, for daily traction and occasional goofing off they're good.
I personally like the S4s but don't love them. They feel numb to me compared to say a continental sport contact 7.
Just got the Michelins put on this morning. I got 32,000 on the Pirelli’s and could have gotten a few more had I been better at rotating, no complaints on wear but they suuuuuuck in snow.
For example, my mercedes came with the worst runftlat tires from Pirelli. Those run flats felt like shit after 10k miles. Unusable and felt dangerous at 14k. Replaced at 15k when costco had proper non runflat tires from Michelin.
