They should be using 0W20 full synthetic oil (not synblend crap). Its not going to hurt running the 5W20 in it instead but next time mention it at write up. Mazda claims benefits such as better cold start protection and better efficiency among other things.
Reviews of spare parts for Mazda
I am currently running a set of studdable (but not studded) General Altimax Arctic tires. They are phenomenal in the snow. A tad loud at 80+ on the highway in the dry, but very good overall in the wet/dry.
I put Koni yellows and Mazdaspeed springs on my wife's MX-5 two summers ago and we both love it.
My car runs full synthetic, no additives. I find a 2.0 engine oil filter mount swap(from cartridge to screw on), royal purple filter, and penzoil ultra/platinum are an amazing combination.
Some of the best wipers I've ever used were from my local Mazda dealership in Edmonton, Canada. They were $12 each and are still working surprisingly well after a whole year.
Bosch Icons. Hands down the best
I have Ventus V12 Evos in 205/40/17 on my MX-5 and I really like them. As as street tire/occasional autocross tire they have not let me down. I've run them to temps as low as the low 40's Fahrenheit and have been pleased with their performance.
The bigger brakes are strong, but the gearbox is obstructive. Steering response is instant and - to your eyes anyway - the MPS corners flat and hard. But wide, high, soft part-bucket seats send the opposite message to your brain , giving the uncomfortable impression the car is rolling in corners.
I hate the stock tires on my 14 sGT. Very poor road feel. The dry grip is horrendous and the road nose is almost unacceptable. Especially right at 55 miles an hour. I can literally feel the buzzing they produce at that speed. 100% would not buy these tires.
In my experience, Bosch spark plugs are always terrible; fouling out within a month, that kind of thing...
