Raybestos Brake caliper

I put on a set of GX460 Raybestos front caliper about 3 years ago. The were galvanized, but I did a second coating of high temp silver (cured in my oven) - they still look brand new.The Raybestos discs sucked and I got vibration within 18 months. New set of Brembo discs and Ake Bono pads a cured that. The 460 upgrade is super cost effective and gives tons of stopping power

Pros: cost effective, tons of stopping power
Cons: discs sucked, vibration

Raybestos Brake caliper

Honestly the new caliper was cheap (also used Raybestos Element3), and the discs/pads are the same price as the 470. That said, there is zero difference in feel most of the time. I don’t get comments about ‘sporty’. The discs are just thicker and calipers a bit wider to suit, pads are exactly the same. The added mass means they don’t get heat soaked as quickly, but for regular use they felt the same. The big difference some people might feel is the difference between new/old pads/discs plus fresh brake fluid and new flex lines - that makes a huge difference.

Pros: no heat soak, same price
Cons: no sporty feel, same feel

Raybestos Brake caliper

As mentioned above you can replace the soft goods in your caliper with a kit. Another option is to buy a rebuilt caliper. They are not very expensive. I bought Raybestos recently. Given the age of your vehicle that's what I would do.

Pros: not very expensive

Raybestos Brake caliper

Most parts from a reputable rebuilder such as Raybestos will be just fine. I've found aftermarket can be superior in some ways to "OEM" as well, since it's fairly likely that Motorcraft rebuilds those calipers, too.

Pros: parts will be fine

Raybestos Brake caliper

If you're at all mechanically inclined, or have a friend who is, you can get Raybestos premium calipers (both left and right), front pads (left and right) from Rockauto.com for ~$275 shipped, and you'll get ~$50 back after returning the cores.

Pros: relatively inexpensive, easy to install

Raybestos Brake caliper

I must clarify that the calipers are Raybestos Professional Grade units FRC3167 and FRC3168 (L and R rears). Got them at rockauto.com, and it doesnt say if they're rebuilt, but I'm sure they are

Part number: FRC3167, FRC3168
