NGK Spark plug

Spark plugs do actually vary for some reason, I always use whats oem to the car. In my case thats the ngk iridium plugs (same goes for cables).

OEM Subaru Tires

I have a 25 yo Subaru Impreza RS that is completely unaffected by snow. That is as long as I put proper snow tires on in the winter, I forgot to switch one winter before a storm and my summer tires were pointless to say the least.

Pros: unaffected by snow
Cons: summer tires pointless

MISHIMOTO Engine radiator
Keith_13
Rating 4.0
  • Overheating:

And don't put the oem radiator in (it sucks). A mishimoto is 2/3 the price, will last longer (it's not made of plastic at the top -- that's why the oem ones fail) and it will actually keep your engine a little cooler.

Pros: lasts longer, keeps cooler
Cons: oem ones fail
Vehicle: Subaru Impreza

MICHELIN Tires

I’m on my second AWD car with CC2s. Subaru Impreza wagon and a Hyundai AWD Ioniq5. Pros are great snow & wet handling and braking & adequate dry handling combined with lower rolling resistance than most for better mileage.

Pros: great snow, wet handling
Cons: adequate dry handling

OEM Subaru Brake pads

2014 impreza limited hatch — only 90K, routine maintenance (oil changes and replacing as needed brake pads, fluids, brake lights, tires, wipers).

aside from some repairs to back wheels (2 years ago) and a clog in my exhaust system that had to be cleared (7 years ago), this baby has been rollin along fine.

Pros: rollin along fine
Mileage: 90000 km

Pilkington Windshield
yepperoniP
Rating 3.0
  • Clarity:

I just got my Impreza windshield replaced with Pilkington after seeing comments in various Subaru subs. The glass is just okay, it has a weird but minor horizontal wavy spot and no idea if it’ll actually be more durable in the long run. It did calibrate fine and EyeSight seems to be working without issue.

Pros: calibrated fine, eyesight working
Cons: minor horizontal wavy spot
Vehicle: Subaru Impreza

Pilkington Windshield
yepperoniP
Rating 3.0
  • Chips/cracks:

The aftermarket Pilkington glass I got doesn't sit quite the same against the dashboard and headliner but it's acceptable. Figured I'd go for it after reading a few posts about the OEM Carlex glass cracking on the various Subaru subs.

Pros: acceptable aftermarket glass
Cons: doesn't sit quite same
Vehicle: Subaru Impreza

Gates Timing belt
psingsong
Rating 0.5
  • Visible wear:

I installed a Gates timing kit on my 2011 2.5 N/A 5 speed manual 50k miles ago (150k total). The belt snapped while I was doing 80mph on the turnpike. My valves were bent with deeper internal damage more likely than not.

Cons: belt snapped, engine damage
Mileage: 80467 km

Nokia Tires

That is the tread of my Nokain Hakkapellita tire, sitting on the side of the highway after blowing off the tire at highway speeds.

This is my winter car, a Subaru Impreza. Nokian Hakkapellita winter tires stay on the car year round, as it only gets driven in the winter months. The tires are 3 years old.

I decided to start the car up and take it for a drive one night in late September, thinking nothing of the tires. I made it about 15 minutes into my drive before BANG, my front drivers side tire tread completely disconnected from the tire, and the sidewall blew apart.

I was driving about 110km/h when this happened and the car almost rolled before I got it back under control.

When I went back up to retrieve the car the next day, the amount of dry rot on the tires was mind blowing. These 3 year old tires had completely dry rotted out over the course of the summer without me thinking to even have a look.

Cons: dry rot, tread disconnected, sidewall blew, car almost rolled
