OEM Subaru Tires

Over the last 2200 miles (3540km) since I put my snows on, I've averaged 26.4mpg, or 8.9l/100km. At least half of those miles are in decent storms. I don't know how people get such horrible mileage in these cars- mine gets better than any previous Subaru I've owned, while going a hell of a lot faster.

Pros: better than previous Subaru
Cons: horrible mileage for others
Vehicle: Subaru
Mileage: 3540 km

OEM Subaru Brake pads

I have a 2017 Forester XT with 131,000 miles - have only done routine maintenance and have had to replace brakes front and rear as well as both control arms and struts, all expected with this many miles on it. I plan to keep it for as long as I can. Love it!

Pros: love it, expected wear
Cons: replaced brakes, replaced control arms, replaced struts
Mileage: 131000 km

OEM Subaru Spark plug

The most expensive proposition was a new windshield, but your particular insurance could solve that. Spark plug replacement was a surprise as far as cost is concerned. I've routinely changed the oil and cvt fluid once. No other maintenance issues. I love the car. Incredible roominess in the cabin and very capable offroad when needed.

Pros: no other maintenance issues, capable offroad
Cons: expensive windshield, costly spark plug replacement
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
Mileage: 98000 km

OEM Subaru CVT fluid

I have a 2019 Forrester. 100k miles. Burns no oil somehow. I monitor it closely. I've changed the CVT fluid 2 times. Zero issues. I change my own oil every 5k miles. It's been so easy to own but maybe I'm lucky.

Pros: no oil burning, zero issues
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
Mileage: 100000 km

OEM Subaru Control arm

We've got a 2018 Forester, 118k miles and so far it's been a great vehicle. I've been very impressed with the AWD handling in Montana winters and off-road. I've done all of our maintenance myself after our initial free service period and only recently replaced both front lower control arms and wheel bearings which came out to about $265.

Pros: great vehicle, impressive AWD
Cons: replaced control arms, replaced wheel bearings
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
Mileage: 118000 km

OEM Subaru Battery

  • Indicator:

I had to replace the battery on a 2016 Crosstrek this summer and, in retrospect, missed a bunch of warning signs before it finally wouldn’t start: slow cranking, occasional extra crank needed, flickering dash lights, and generally dim interior lights.

Pros: fixed starting issue
Cons: slow cranking, dim lights
Vehicle: Subaru

  • Smoothness:

I got a cvt wrx after a bad knee injury, it never felt right driving it. Eventually i brought it back to the dealer because I thought something was wrong with it. They checked it out and said it was fine. As soon as my knee was fully healed I traded it in for an sti. I still have the sti and an outback wilderness. The wilderness is definitely better then the cvt in the wrx but still feels like driving a rubber band. It's weird ive also owned a forester and crosstrek and those were fine. I just think the cvt doesn't play well with the turbo motor

Pros: Outback CVT better
Cons: never felt right, like driving rubber band, doesn't play well with turbo
Vehicle: Subaru

Got the VB limited with CVT because my wife didn’t like having a second car she couldn’t drive. After 3 months and her driving it not even once….. I traded it in when the 0% interest hit. Waste of about $1k but was happy being out of the CVT.

Cons: unhappy with CVT, traded car
Vehicle: Subaru
