before i got my car i was used to having my I6 powered 300E. having six cylinders was great and i could maintain 90mph for hours on end. i just went from southern CA to the bay area a couple days ago. the 1.8T did great! did much better than expected. i had just had my 15k service the day before i left too. stock air filter was in because i forgot to put the K&N back in. when i got back though i saw how much dust was on the stock filter after the trip so i was glad to save the K&N. anyway back on track, would have been nice to have 6 cylinders on the open road but the 1.8T was great. i kept it at 80-85mph the whole time. 6+hrs.

Never a problem with my K&N dropin, it was rather "dry" when installing it. Performance gain? Honestly, don't know..., seems my butt dyno feels a little more free breathing.
I had my k&n installed on my passat at 19k miles, i have had no problems but was warned when i purchased it to not put too much oil on it when you clean it as to not @!#@! up the MAF. I haven't noticed a performance gain with the K&N, however when the stock one was put back in i noticed how quiet my engine was when reving hard. I don't like it at all so im putting in another k&n(i like the noise)
I've had the K&N in my V6 for the last 50,000 miles without any problems. When it came time to clean it I let it dry thoroughly (over 24 hours) before oiling, lightly oiled it, and let it soak in thoroughly before installing.
The K&N in my 2002 Passat has been working great for the past, uh, 300 miles.
I just threw in a k&n.
I have had a K&N in my 1999 Passat for over 20,000 miles. No CEL's or any other problems. I didn't notice any siginificant performance gains, possibly a 1 mpg increase in gas mileage. To be safe, I haven't put a K&N in my 2001.
I had a K & N put in my 2000 Passat and same thing happened to me. Turned off car and next time I started it, I got the check engine light.
i had the same problem when i fitted a K&N filter on my 2000 Jetta, I probably overoiled that thing and it clogged my MAF. I didnt notice any gains maybe its just all hype but I will not use a K&N filter on my Passat.
I have a K&N in my BMW and it has helped with fuel consumption - however - it was a pro install and has a cold air duct fitted to the front grille. The car was then also dyno tuned to optimise the better airflow. However - I take the benefit in fewer filter changes and better fuel consumption.
