This happened to my 2019 vw jetta recently so i got the ignition switch replaced because it displayed check starter system after I let it sit in direct heat for a few hours. Everything was fine for a few weeks until the other day I was getting a haircut and let the car sit in the heat for only 2 hours in 105 degree weather and when I got in the car I turned it on (it turned on fine) then after about a minute all the electric in the car shut of such as a/c, radio, headlights etc and it displayed check starter system again but the car still let me drive home. Anyone know what can be the issue?

Pros: car still drivable
Cons: electric shut off
Vehicle: Volkswagen Jetta

I bought a $6 ignition switch to replace the OEM one that failed after 25 years of use. The aftermarket one lasted about 1.5 years before it was intermittently working, and then finally left me stranded. I spent $60 (I think, somewhere around there) when I got home on the OEM VW switch.

Cons: lasted only 1.5 years

I had zero power a few times due to my ignition switch but I cant say if it had any power outside of the switch itself as I dont lock the doors since its parked in my garage. I do know it had no inside lights when it occurred and the only way to \"restore\" power was to continue cycling the key while removing and inserting it each time.

Pros: restore power cycling key
Cons: zero power a few times
