Your alternator probably just shit the bed. Was on its last of its life then the added \"stress\" of a stereo system made it kill itself.

My best regular car battery has been a Champion branded unit I picked up at Pep Boys almost 5 years ago when my PB store brand unit failed 34 months into it's 36month warranty . Still going strong!

I'm still running on the original battery, which does surprisingly well until subzero temps set in, and then the poor thing just cries a lot and breaks my heart, so I jump it with my Noco and things are fine.

I went through two of them in a season in my trail Jeep. I think years ago they were great batteries and the quality was there but now it’s just a brand name but junk product.
