The rebuild kit for the brake booster came in today so that went back together... all the parts: the kit with 3 o rings, pump cover, pump innards, and pump body.
Owner reviews for brake booster
Surprisingly, I've never had a problems with Ebay used parts. Got an M3 brake booster for $50. BMW wanted $1000 for it so I bought two just in case one was bad. They were both fine.
Its NOT the Brake booster vac pump lol I replaced that 3 months ago with OEM VW parts from the dealer $506 repair.
Just for follow up.. I brought the car to the dealership this morning. They were able to replicate the issue and it is the brake booster.
That brake pedal noise is a vacuum leak. Either the line going to the brake booster or the brake booster itself. They are known to cause leaks. Get it replaced ASAP! I got mine replaced. Same issue. Hissing sound that goes away when slightly stepping on the brake.
I found a vac leak at the brake booster line. I fixed it, and now I am getting no codes at all. it says "EVAP OK" The reason I missed the leak at the brake booster line is because it can't be detected with a pressure test because of the check valve. I've driven 35 miles with no codes, so an entire year with a lean code is finally over, I hope!
Just to update - my 2014 GLI is currently in the shop. The hissing is due to cold weather causing a seal to \"shrink\". Boost is always regained after startup, so it's not a \"safety\" issue. With that said, they've ordered the report to replace the brake boost.
Yep... she's running again, and now has a brake booster vacuum leak. Hissing sound every now and then sounding like it's under the dash. Runs like crap sometimes.
But then it also went through _three_ brake boosters, two rear differentials, blew a head gasket, burst the radiator and just ran like a dog.
Get yourself a spare brake booster if you keep the Mazda system, those things are fragile and impossible to find sometimes.
