From what I’ve seen on here, the consensus is that the Bosch fuel pump is the only one that won’t die immediately
Owner reviews for fuel pump
Finished! I got the new fuel pump installed last night (finished right at 10pm) and took it for a short test drive with just a 1/4 tank of gas. It looks like everything is working properly now, no surging, no stalling, and it idles better now than before
My sister's fuel pump was causing poor mileage in her 2015 mk7 golf sel - it eventually failed and was replaced under warranty and the car now gets as advertised...
There is an Ebay seller who seems to have a lot of new old pumps. I bought one from him a few years ago and its the OE Pierburg pump, so it installed without issue, just transferred the sender over.
12.9 ohms on a brand new Pierburg pump and flange assembly.
The fix for my car ended up being a OEM fuel pump manufactured by VDO. Car has been running all the way down to the low fuel light with no issues for the past 2 months.
Yesterday I changed the fuel pump. After changing the fuel pump, I put the pump relay back in, turned the key to ON and listened for the pump to prime. After about 3 seconds, I turned the ignition on and the car started right up! I shut it off, cleaned up my mess, and about 20 minutes later I hopped in and started the car again. No issues. I drove it around the neighborhood and the thing runs great! That cutting out/lag/surging was gone, the engine felt powerful again, and the fuel gauge was back to working.
One thing I've noticed with worn fuel pumps is they will still physically operate, but they won't put out the 70psi they're supposed to put out, or their flowrate decreases. In the case of my R32's pump, the flowrate and pressure were significantly decreased, and the load on the circuit was increased. Lots of resistance, overloaded the relay.
I’m replacing the fuel pump in my 02 suburban. I’ve got a Delphi fuel pump going in that I bought off rockauto. First thing I noticed was one of the plugs are different. Ask about it, they’ve got a new style plug cuz the only ones broke a lot. Nbd got the new plug, looked up how to wire it. It’s color matched on the wires in my truck cool. So I wire up the new plug, get the pump in the tank, go to prime the pump and nothing. No noise from the pump at all. I check all my fuses, and made sure I’ve got power at the plug. Alls good so far but the pump ain’t doing anything.
I finally figured out my issue was the fuel pump, so I dropped the half full tank on my sloped driveway very carefully and installed the Dephi fuel pump. Reinstalled and refilled the gas tank and it drove great for 3 trips. The first trip was to the gas station to fill the other half of the tank and the last trip was to my office to show off. Now the dang thing won't start again.
I found that all fuses and relays were fine and I am getting 12V power down to the fuel pump but the pump doesn't turn, so my obvious conclusion is that the Delphi fuel pump failed.
