So it looks like they solved the problem. Swapped out the fuel pump. I guess it was having issues with low fuel pressure. Said they metered it earlier but didn\u2019t find anything. Low and behold, it fixed it.
Owner reviews for fuel pump
I purchased my new pump from FCPEuro - highly recommend them - it was "aftermarket" but was the same brand (VDO, a division of Continental) as the original, and was reasonably priced at a little over $200.
When it comes to electrical components or accessories, it is well worth it to buy the OEM part, you can usually buy them from third parties, so you don't have to go to the dealer. Something like a fuel pump or alternator is not worth cheaping out on, do you really want to tear out your fuel tank(depending on vehicle) any more than necessary?
At 176,000 KM there has only been one issue. Fuel pump! It was covered under warranty. No issues at all with timing chain or related parts. Nothing else at all.
Only US Bosch replacement- https://www.nostrumshop.com/product/vw-mk6-gti-high-pressure-fuel-pump/ 2145 Get the check book out........
I'd go with Bosch. A fuel pump isn't something I'd want to cheap out on and I'll have to get the OEM for something like that.
Bosch. Always use Bosch for the pump. They're the OEM and the vastly better service life than the cheap brands is more than worth the extra cost.
Love the car, but have just had the fuel pump replaced, driver-side window leak fixed, and a slight metallic rubbing sound related to the brakes(which the techs can't find yet.)
NEVER GET AN AIRTEX PUMP unless you like doing this work, because you will be doing it again if you do.
I went with a store brand, I think airtex when I replaced mine 2 years ago. I have to replace it again before I start driving it again.
