OEM Volkswagen Headlights

I think a few people asked in this thread if the manual adjustments actually make a difference, and I can confirm what other's have stated...using tape measures today, the manual adjustments change the center height of the self-leveling/adaptive system. It makes logical sense because even under the best of manufacturing conditions, both the headlight units and chasis will vary slightly, requiring the ability for manual adjustments to ensure proper, legal, alignment. About 1.5 turns for my setup seems to keep it within the guidelines for adjusting headlamps. For sure, VW went conservative and had them a bit lower.

Pros: manual adjustments make difference
Cons: VW went conservative

Porsche has some pretty impressive headlights. The Cayenne I bought used had the technology package or something that included the HID headlights, so I don't know if that statement stands for their regular headlights. But, having had a couple of vars with HIDs now, the Porsche is mind boggling. Not only does it illuminate for a long distance, but the angle of illumination is astounding. With the brights on, I can see 50 feet off of the road on either side clearly illuminated to watch for wild life.

Pros: illuminates long distance, astounding angle
Vehicle: Porsche Cayenne

Fwiw, Jeep Wrangler headlights are straight up garbage from the factory. But due to the simple design and aftermarket popularity you can get a really nice set of LED headlights for under $1k. DOT approved with a proper cutoff so you don’t blind everyone on the road.

Pros: nice set of LED headlights
Cons: garbage from the factory
Vehicle: Jeep Wrangler

The Osram headlights are better than “normal“ aftermarket ones, not as good as OEM Xenon, but still realy good. My buddy had for his MK6 aftermarket GTI Headlights, at night they were pretty bad, than he ordered the osram, and the difference is huge compared to the ****ty aftermarket crap.

Pros: better than aftermarket ones
Cons: not as good as OEM

I loved riding the BMW. I don't know what they did or how they did it, but the handling was sublime, using nearly the same suspension components as the SV. I just felt so confident riding it. It had all the power I needed, brakes that saved my arse more than once and was an absolute joy to ride - whether it was to work or to the Netherlands. It sipped fuel (70mpg @ 70mph!), never needed faffing about with the chain and had a bloody decent headlight.

Pros: sublime handling, decent headlight
Vehicle: BMW

HELIX Headlights

Just wanted to follow up for anyone else thinking about running the same headlights that I found a working solution. To reiterate what MarcoCap24 stated, the Helix LED R Style for the Mk6 Jetta ( https://www.urotuning.com/Helix-Projector-Headlights-LED-R-Style-Mk6-Jetta-p/hvwj6hl-l7.htm ) LED UU's will light up as intended with a euroswitch.

Pros: lights up as intended

7th gen Civic headlights were worthless. A bunch of flashlights duct taped to the hood would be an improvement. Honda must have gotten an earful because the 8th gen Civic had excellent units.

Pros: 8th gen excellent units
Cons: 7th gen worthless
Vehicle: Honda Civic
