Odyssey intake manifold is cooler as it is a lighter alloy, not aluminum. And the throttlle body is the largest of the J family.
Owner reviews for intake manifold
I had my 2012 vw gli at 50k miles to 220k miles. Beat the crap out of it. Change oil often also check it. Intake manifolds suck 3rd time with me blasting it. Spark plugs and coils packs suck get better ones.
I had installed a 4bbl. carb, intake manifold and a set of shorty headers.
Did have my intake manifold replaced under warranty at 4k (~8 months of ownership). Has been solid since.
Only use OEM intake manifolds on these 4.6 motors. Aftermarket ones arent as efficient and the gaskets they use are often uneven and ive seen too many people have to redo the job months later as its leaking due to a poor seal.
There are a few almost guarantees. 1) intake manifold change over flaps. they will disintegrate. Only fix at the moment is new manifold for 1800.
Roughly ~98k on 12' GLI, MT At about ~90k the intake runner control broke, causing some misfire codes and funky idle. Intake manifold was replaced by dealer under TSB and they did a walnut blast while they were in there.
Being able to attend a PCA event and causing people get frustrated. Personally I dislike it, I\u2019m installing it on a friends car and it only add complications.
I had a 2009 GTI that I bought new, and had the intake manifold replaced 3 times within 50,000 miles. The first one was replaced at 500 Miles, again at 23,000 and again at 45,000 miles.
In Sept I had to have the entire intake manifold replaced (covered by warranty) because the "intake runner has broken from the adjustment lever". The way the dealer explained what that means sounds just like what you explained. It took them like 3 months to track down the problem and my symptoms just kept getting worse and worse (rough idle, misfires, bad engine "hiccup" at 2500 rpms). I also had all injectors replaced at the same time and had carbon build up hand cleaned. Car ran great for a while and now I can feel the "hiccup" starting again at 2500 rpms. Dealer explained about how VW has redesigned the intake manifold for 2010's due to this issue. I have to say, reading your post is depressing as I have this sinking feeling that this is not the last time I will have to replace the intake manifold.
