On my eclipse gs sport I've put in a racing header and cold air intake, (although my tuner said the stock intake is actually better than any aftermarket stuff because of where the breather is located). I also had a custom exhaust made with magnaflow mufflers.
Not a fast car but you can make it souind decent with much much less than 800 USD. Borla Proxs 40364 model around $110 Custom 2.5" catback piping at alocal muffler prices was like 100-120 usd on my city, aluiminized piping.
Old school 70s style muffler shop put a magnapack in place of the stock resonator and took off the muffler. $190 cash, nice deep growl but silent when cruising
Borla muffler (No drone. Very nice rumble). The damn thing drives smooth and there is not a rattle or shake to be found.
For the muffler I just went with a simple round straight through style muffler from magnaflow.
removing the mid muffler gave just what i needed for my GT.
I've sealed the muffler with paste which confirmed it was the problem (noise, responsiveness). That fix is only temporary, though.
I have a header, no cat, full 3in, a 16in glasspack, and a 16in borla xr-1. As you can see from this video, its still loud.
I recently had a bad experience with a Walker muffler.
“Premium” stainless Walker muffler for the same Hyundai lasted 2 years before every single weld rotted and perforated in multiple locations.
