I have 318is with eibach pro kit 1 inch lower and bilstein b8 (basically original) and it drives like a dream. I personally dont like lowered or slam cars especially as its classic and i want to enjoy the deive not be bothered with potholes. If tou really want to lower it make sure the springs and shocks are good quality. Previous suspension was TA tehnica and the entire chassis was moving on potholes. My previous e30 (316i) had the same stupid TA tehnica and I swapped the suspension from a e30 wagon that had the same ground clearance as you and it perfect for the city

I got h and r lowering springs and bilstein B8 shocks and struts. They work really well. And i can go over speed bumps and handle rough roads.

Note 5100s are stiff... Not a soak up the bumps kind of shock FYI

I like mine, just didn't know beforehand so I was a little surprised it felt stiffer than OEM. Also more composed on hard hits, washboard, etc. And notably less body roll, good for on road handling in that sense...

The Koni Special Actives with Eibach Pro package is the best overall ride for S197 platform. It even comes with bump stops.

I ended up changing the shocks for KONI’s STRT kit and it made it a little more comfortable.

Pros: more comfortable

Cons: not happy with ride

Usually change the whole set since the labor cost is already there to open the whole part. Shocks can get OE parts from KYB.

Leaks:

I've had a number of BMWs and VWs with Sachs shocks leak after 40-50k miles. It's not like they totally fail and collapse, they just start having much slower rebound and faster compression.

Recently I put a set of their old man emu shocks on my wife’s 100 series just looking for a quality set of replacements. They looked quality. That being said the ride is abysmal! They are so stiff the car skips sideways when you hit bumps in a corner. It feels like the car is being rattled to pieces. They completely destroyed the very nice ride of the car.

Pros: looked quality

Cons: ride is abysmal, too stiff

Los Duralast se cambiaron para reemplazar los originales traseros y duraron funcionando bien un mes. Al mes y un día eran peores que los viejos de agencia. Increíble que se sintiera mejor con unos amortiguadores de 13 años de antigüedad que con unos nuevos.
