The AS remind me of all of my Pilot experiences in the wet. But I am cautious when probing limits on public roads; I have yet to experience these in the wet on roads that I know well. I really want to feel how these break loose - sudden or gradual - after loosing traction on wet roads. But they do continue to impress me, far beyond the Pirellis.
Owner reviews for tires
I've bought 4 sets of Kumho tires over the last 8 years, Ecsta SPT, XS twice, and most recently v720. I don't have any complaints. All worked well for street, autox, and track use.
I have no experience with Tiger Paw tires but the Uniroyal Rain Sport 3 is one of the best tires I've driven.
I also just bought the AS3+ for the mix of wear rating and performance (I also have dedicated winter tires so this wasn't important for me neither) and I'm also REALLY pleased with them. They actually handle stage 2 power better than the Potenza, which is a summer tire. I now have 10 000 km on them and I can honestly say that they offer equivalent or even better performance than many summer tires I had. I actually planned to trade them for PSS if I weren't satisfied, but I really am so I'm keeping them. I don't track my car, but as I said I'm stage 2 and do lots of spirited driving, and these tires are great!!
I had X-ice Xi3s on the Fiesta ST I owned for just over 2 years, and I actually liked driving on them more than the stock Bridgestone Potenza RE50A. Obviously not as much grip in drier weather, but for anything below 40 degrees or so, and certainly any snow, they were fantastic, and a lot easier to live with (much quieter; much more compliant, although part of that was also being on a smaller winter wheel).
I bought 17" rims and Pirelli Sottozero 3 performance winters. The one time they saw snow last year was a ton of fun and they handled it like a champ. The other 99% of the time, when they were driven in the rain, they were awesome.
Just had some General Altimax Arctic mounted on the stock 15's last week. Paid $310 mounted after rebate at Sears. I used the same tires for three winters on my last car, and was really happy with the way they performed.
I have a set of 16" rims on order that will be getting Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 winter tires (205/55R16). They'll be getting installed at the end of October, after the car arrives.
I ended up with the firestones. I know they are not the best winter tire but I'd take them over an A/T in the winter. I got my moneys worth the day I put them on because we got a decent "wet" snow storm and the main road out of our neighborhood was closed do to an accident as usual. I had to take a alternate rout which is a steep curvy 1 lane road and I was one of the few to make it all they way out without spending time in the ditch or guardrails.
I know the OP has already purchased tires, but I figured I'd share my experience with the Conti DWS's. The (soon to be) wife had them on her MKIV Jetta (225/45/R17) and they were SUPER soft. Really caused a lot of bounce in the car.
