Air filter Mann or Fram
Like all diesels, they're all about air flow, so only use the big German air filters by Mann or Mahle in it. The more air you feed it, the better it will run.
Buy an aftermarket dry filter (Mann, Filtron etc.) and install that.
Mann filters are excellent.
I use Fram Extra Guard in my 2014 Civic and have used Fram for decades in my cars. Never had a problem.
I had the smell problem. Dealer changed the filter, didn’t help. I installed FRAM CF12552 and that took care of it.
Bought a Mann Air Filter and center tail lamp bulb for my e39 for $15 bucks at Advanced just before Xmas.
fram air filter has odor eaters, you can also buy the shit for a home air vent. do it yearly or 6months especially if you park outside because pollen and shit can ruin it. even driving through a work zone
The OE filters are fantastic at efficiency in filtration over service life as they will filter smaller particles consistently. But they will clog rapidly and reduce overall flow to the point of producing a compromise in fueling. This shows up in the combustion efficiency and nitration numbers of a comprehensive oil analysis. I tend to stay away from the high flow "performance" filters and just change my OEs more often.
FRAM makes arguably the worst car products I have ever seen, every time someone brings me a fram filter to use in their car I give them the side-eye like “are you sure?”
I recently purchased a Fram air filter and after comparing it to my stock one, decided to take it back. The Fram one looks like absolute garbage. Flimsy, warped, low quality paper, and way less pleats.
