Alternator Denso or OEM Volvo
I would suggest Denso for the Honda. With a high amp usage like an Odyssey, anything, but Denso will cause the battery light to be on intermittently.
You can get a remanufactured Denso (OE) for that car: it's probably the most cost-effective option.
The 2.4 in my 2006 S40 was stone cold reliable to 157k miles before I sold it. Needed a new alternator at about 145k but that was it. It\u2019s been 2 years and I still miss driving that car. The BEST front seats of any vehicle I\u2019ve driven or ridden in.
I would get a better alternator. Denso (reman or new is fine) seems to be the only one that can take the high electrical demand of the Odyssey.
My old 04 Volvo Xc90 had 311k on the dash before the alternator gave up lol. Doing better than that!
Denso alternators are the best. Denso makes great products. I do a lot of side work on Hondas and I am so thankful Denso offers their stuff outside of the dealership. I replace alternators, a/c compressors, oxygen sensors, etc all the time and I choose Denso bc it's basically the same exact part you receive in a Honda box but for half the price.
If the alternator is OEM, replace it, because is close to the exhaust manifold, it will fail sooner than later.
If you are replacing the alternator, strongly recommend using only Honda dealer sold remanufactured alternators (probably Denso) or an aftermarket Denso brand remanufactured alternator. Lots of problems reported with other brands.
Purchase a new or remanufactured Denso or TYC alternator. Most others are a roll of the dice in terms of lasting longer than 12months.
my local garage replaced with an aftermarket. Two weeks ago the squeak of bad bearings arrived and *it* had to be replaced. A different mechanic (Honda specialist) said OEM parts were very hard to find, even here in Los Angeles, so they installed a better aftermarket alternator. That was a squeaker. Then they installed another: squeaker. Now I'm waiting for the delivery of a Denso alternator from Texas that's arriving on Friday. $100 more but I've got my fingers crossed.
