Alternator OEM Honda or OEM Nissan
I have a honda crv and it went out today. I ordered the alternator on amazon which cost me about 200.00 and it only takes 1-2:hours.
Z1 Offroad has an OEM Nissan remanufactured for a good price, that's I what I went with.
Generally, it's best to go with new OEM (Honda) parts. My second choice is aftermarket, new or rebuilt parts. That said, in all my years at wrenching I've had great luck with aftermarket from reputable (NAPA, Duralast, etc) stores with good warranties.
Most of my experience is from the Infiniti side of the family, but I replaced an alternator on all my higher mileage vehicles. In general, the diode packs in Nissan alternators go out after about 150k miles or so.
Honda uses great parts. They're expensive though. I had to buy the OEM alternator for my CRV from the dealer (because that was the only one I could get in one day) and it was 700 bucks
If you don’t have huge power requirements and are happy with the standard amperage then just grab an NA Z32 alternator from a wrecker and modify the tensioner bolt to suit.
I had a Honda Odyssey do this for years. Finally took to Battery Plus. They checked my battery at the time (which was not having issues…yet) which they said was good. On a lark i asked if their device could tell if the alternator was okay. He said yes, did something on the meter, and then showed me on the screen the alternator showed “errors”. I had the alternator replaced and the dead batteries stopped happening.
My light was due to alternator-08 odyssey- alternator also was starting to wine pretty bad as well. Local mechanic fixed mine for just over $500 I also had the oil leak happening prior to alternator going bad.
My car 2012 honda pilot died while I was driving down the highway yesterday. The stereo cut power on and off, then I lost power to the vehicle and I pulled off the road. I got the vehicle towed to a garage assuming the alternator crapped out (120k miles on my SUV).
I ended up replacing the alternator but it wasn’t a genuine Nissan part and it didn’t work.
