Alternator OEM Toyota or Bosch
Bosch redesigned the alternator and they seem to last as long as the original factory warranty.
With the motor running, both low beams and high beams on, wiper on, rear brake lights on, heater fan at full speed and the stereo running at a good volume, the alternator provides 57 amps to the car at 13.5 volts.
Yes a VR6 alternator will work on an ABA. But you need to know the difference between a Valeo 90A pulley and a Bosch 90A. They are not interchangeable.
I got mine in and running Perfect for people who need a little more room running ITBs It even charges better than my rebuilt bosch did (hitting 14v)
if you're planning on keeping the car a while then $365 installed is reasonable for a refurbished bosch (use the same mfr & amp that was OE) and that should come w/warantee & last about as long as the original.
yea, just pick up a new one at like autozone, get the bosch one if you can.
Just did this mod today and my voltage went up to 14.4v at the battery/alternator!!!! Wahooooo!!! And by the way...the car drives sooooooo much better!!! NIGHT AND DAYYY DIFFERENCE!!! I'm glad you posted this up...i never knew!! Cheap $1.50 mod and it actually WORKS!
buy a brand new Bosch one....the aftermarket ones suck, ask me how I know....this is one of the few areas where buying the original bosch oem part makes a huge difference...they are usually around 30 dollars and should be lasting you at least 2-3 years
Whithin the past year the car has had a new bosch alternator. I jump the car, it makes between 12-13 volts at the battery when running.
My newly remanufactured Bosch 120amp alternator was extremely hot last night on the end of a 500 mile trip. Alt light never came on, all electricals were good, but there was a burning smell form the vents that seemed to be coming form the alternator's location in the engine bay. I touched the casing and it was very hot. Now this morning the battery is stone cold dead.
