Battery Bosch or OEM Mercedes
Historically, OEM Mercedes batteries are really good and last many years.
I will second a class 3 Bosch. I have one in a hilly city that absolutely rocks the steeps and has a great battery life. Going on 2 years strong and I've had zero battery issues. It rains a lot here but no problems with the Shimano drivetrain either, just regular maintenance.
Everyone's suggesting things that might save you half a percent or so, but no one has pointed out that by driving at 80mph, you lose *around 30% more battery* than if you were doing 70mph over the same distance
I have a Cube Stereo Hybrid pro (insert numbers here)
Priced about 3.5k retail, it's an absolute dream to ride. Quiet, huge battery (bosch power tube 800)
For my Mercedes sprinter I had the same battery in it for 10 years. I went and bought it at the dealership. Since the last one lasted 10 years. I shouldn’t have a problem with it.
The Bosch has slightly lower Cold Cranking Amps at 330 vs the Yuasa at 360. Also Bosch has 4 yr warranty vs Yuasa 5yr.
I have used Bosch, Panasonic, and now Amaron in my 2013 WK2. Bosch lasted as much as my previous 2 Mopar lasted.
I bought a brand new Bosch battery last year ( not Halfords)and when I checked the voltage it was less than 10 volts so there are dud batteries out there.
After 7 sets of battery drains, I installed a new set and left it on a shelf untouched for a week. Turned on and dead. Made a warranty claim with Bosch to which their lazy troubleshooting reply:
Let me start by apologizing on behalf of BOSCH for any inconvenience this has caused you. I performed a complete inspection: I 1st charged up your lithium battery. I then calibrated & tested unit with both alkaline & lithium batteries: PASSED. I know it’s an inconvience. But: Leaving any batteries in unit when not in use: ( Unit will drain all battery types )—( Unit self discharges batteries when not in use ) --That is why Bosch put in manual tom remove batteries. PG# 21—Attached – ( they actually don’t say how long the “ extended period is “) That way it is not considerd a factory defect. Other than that: unit is operating to all Manufacurers Specification & Tolerances. Best regards,
-Well I'm never buying another Bosch product again with customer service like that. Pissed that I bought this expensive paperweight. What product in today's world drains batteries when not in use? Clearly flawed engineering they are hiding and do not value the end users. A recall is in order.
I switched to Bosch after that. that failed after 2.5 years, just under warranty. so it can happen with any company. some batches might have good quality some do not.
