Battery OEM Chevrolet or OPTIMA
The nice people at Optima would love to hear from you.
Have a Chevy Volt. The battery is only good for 22-40 miles depending on outside temp. It gets plugged in at night and costs $14-18 a month. For the past 3 years we have used less then 25 gallons of gas.
Not many cons. The car is much better on electricity than when the gas motor has to kick in. Much quieter and has a bit more throttle response so I don't like it when the battery runs out.
I put an Optima Yellow Top battery into my 2018 OB 3.6R because the CCAs of the stock battery were pitiful (490 vs 720). Maybe check out other brands aside from Duralast? Also, get something that’s way beefier than the stock battery, especially if you live in hot or cold climates.
I don't see it as overkill. It might have unused capacity, but I'd also rather have a battery that stands up to more than just enough.
I e been happy with them in my last 3 vehicles.
I had an Optima red top in my 89 4runner and that thing lasted for 12 fucking years. Needless to say I bought another one.
I bought an optima just because it and it's custom hold down looked cool. Unfortunately I let it sit with no tender for over a year and it discharged almost completely. I've been able to nurse it back and it is functioning at this time, but not sure it will hold a charge. We will see. I'm happy with it otherwise.
It literally is of 0 benefit and in fact they have shown to have a shorter lifetime in these applications.
Optimas quality fell off hard when they moved manufacturing to Mexico. They've been riding on their previous reputation ever since.
I went through two of them in a season in my trail Jeep. I think years ago they were great batteries and the quality was there but now it’s just a brand name but junk product.
