Brake discs POWER STOP or R1 Concepts
I see a lot of negative comments on here about PowerStop drilled & slotted rotors...But, I installed some drilled & slotted rotors on my 2002 Mustang GT...and what they did so for me was COMPLETELY eliminate any brake pedal/steering wheel pulsation/shudder caused by "warped" rotors...THAT alone made switching to drilled & slotted rotors worth it, to me.
I just installed front axle drilled and slotted rotors, and new pads, all from R1 Concepts, and total cost shipped (Amazon) was $56. Tax, delivery, shims, everything but silicone grease.
Powerstops, they upgraded my braking performance at least by 3x, and they look really good too, I got the kit for my car with the drilled/slotted rotors, powder coated red calipers and ceramic heat resistant pads, they were a HUGE upgrade for sure.
Also here in support of PowerStop. Been running the Z23 Kit on my BMW F30 for a few years. No complaints whatsoever and the drilled and slotted rotors look great! Highly recommend!
When I was told something similar, I went with Powerstop Z36 extreme tow at just over $600 for both front and rear rotors and pads. I did this at 42,000 im now at 115,000 and still good on same set. I use it as a truck and drive it like a sportscar.
I got my 2008 Acura RL calipers on my 00 TL and I used slotted rotors and Bose brake pads. They bite. So IMO I would get the PowerStop, a very good brand everyone loves.
I've had a set of PowerStop Z23 pads, rotors, and calipers, and I drive my card HARD and still doing just fine 30k miles later. Easily 40-50% left. I used to track my car, pre COVID, and that's about the only straight up abuse I've done. I also drive year round through the winter time. I've never had pads wear down faster because of the rotors being drilled/slotted!
Got a 2017 lancer and did the R1 concepts. Good results after only the first two weeks. Mind you! I had two seized calipers in the back and had to replace those as well. What is stated about drilled rotors is true about the cracking if you’re using them aggressively, I bought these specific ones because I read they have the better rating out of most and since I’m using them in the winter I’m not concerned with them getting too hot to crack (please correct me if my logic is not correct) but I assumed that since the vehicle was primarily being used for cold weather it would be best to go with a more reputable brand for safe stopping power.
Installed new r1 concepts drilled and slotted rotors. After break-in, I noticed a clicking sound from both front rotors, resembling a wheel of fortune. The sound happens when a pad is in. The r1 concepts rotors are dimple instead of drilled all the way through, unlike my previous Power Stop rotors. Brakes feel great otherwise, but this pesky clicking noise when I have windows down will drive me nuts. I may go back to Power Stop.
I also bought Power Stop Z23 Evolution Geomet Coated Rotors after I bought and installed Z23 pads. Desided I need to change the rotors after I installed the pads, oops. What bothered me about Power stop rotors is that the front rotors where NOT Notched (balanaced).
