Brake pads Akebono or OEM Subaru
I run Akebono pads on my Lexus/Toyota cars. They are ceramic, so there may be less bite than a semi-metallic pad, but they are very low dust and last long.
Bosch rotors with akebono pads. Works great on my 2nd gen. Seen this pair on the tundra forum raved about. The pads especially. I daily my truck and don't notice brake noises. Live in the rust belt and had to beat the pads out of the calipers when I did it..
I've had good luck with Akebono ceramic pads and whatever rotors RockAuto has on sale that aren't the cheapest option. Stay away from those super budget pads from unknown brands - learned that lesson the hard way when they turned to dust after like 6 months
Akebono makes great pads you really don't need factory parts when it comes to brakes. Honda factory rotors are notoriously prone to warping for innumerable reasons.
I do the minor maintenance myself: oil/filter, air filters, wiper blades.
I save enough $$ on the DIY portion, so I don't mind using my dealer for the other stuff: front & rear dif fluids, CVT fluid, brake fluid, brake pads, etc.
Akebono
Akebono pads and Zimmerman rotors are the tried and true replacement brakes.
Having said that - aside from the valve cover gasket - that job requires all gaskets replaced on the air intake side, and I’m not seeing those in the list. Also, for some reason, I had bad luck with Akebono pads on my Honda. Worked well on a Toyota but just about each time my Pilot would develop a shimmy after about 10k kms after pads replacement. I have had a much better luck with Centrix rotors and pads.
The brake job was easy, I bought Akebono pads, Textar is what was on it. Mine make a grinding sound on driver side now under heavy braking, I don’t see anything wrong upon thorough visual inspection so I need to disassemble that side again and take a closer look. Maybe get a different brand pad to potentially avoid this?
We were quoted slightly over $1000 USD for brake pads and rotor resurfacing. 🥲 Dealership quote. Going to another shop.
