Brake pads Akebono or OEM Volvo
I have changed my own pads and rotors. It’s a relatively easy job when you got the tools. Try and get akebono pads. They are ceramic pads which means clean wheel with no black dust and they dont chew on the rotors.
Akebono if you don't want to wash your wheels every few days. Plus they last forever.
Akebono. Soooo much less dust than others.
Bought some Akebono Ultra pads and wheels look great all the time! Didn't notice any drop off in performance
Yeah definitely don't buy the OEM brembo pads. Akebono pads are pretty popular but there's mixed reviews on noise/dust levels. Someone recommended Akebono to me, so have been running them for a few months and have had great results so far.
I have always used and trusted akebono pads. I've used them in Jeeps, Land rovers, Toyotas, Ford's, my 335i...you name it. Much less brake dust. Very quiet. Long lasting.
On my street bmws I have been using akebono pads whenever possible. They dust a fraction of the OE compound. Zimmerman/textar and even akebono rotors are good from what I’ve seen.
I use the Akebono pads on a 2013. Those are spring retention clips. I think the idea is to push the pads away from the rotor when you aren't braking. It's a weird design because the spring clip is only on one side of the pad. I've seen other cars use spring clips on each side of the pad The setup in those pics looks right to me where the clips are on the bottom. Also the factory OEM pads (Akebono too) have a similar design.
Who the hell told you the C30 is unreliable. My mechanic started his own shop after working for the big regional volvo dealership for 15 years. He told me that of all the Volvos he ever worked on the C30 stood out significantly as being the most reliable. It was built on the P2 chassis, but since it came out years after the first P2 chassis cars, it was able to have a lot of significant improvements/upgrades/fixes over the other, older P2 cars. He told me that over time the mechanics would get so frustrated whenever a C30 came in, because every single time all it would need was a basic oil change or brake pad replacement, never any major work.
Akebono's were hit and miss for me. One set had an on-off behavior, and another set had a nice linear behavior
