POWER STOP Brake pads

At 34k miles I have replaced my front brake pads with “Power Stop Z23-2275 Evolution Sport” and it is ten times better than the factory original brakes. If you own a Turbo engine, do yourself a good and replace front pads (at least) asap.

Pros: ten times better
Cons: factory brakes poor
Vehicle: Mazda 3
Mileage: 34000 km
Part number: Z23-2275

POWER STOP Brake pads

I’d recommend changing the pads. It’s the source of the “warped rotors” that this generation of Volvo is known for. You could wait on it and let Volvo replace the rotors if you have a problem, while under warranty. It’s a trade off, do you want to leave it and need to take it for service to let Volvo deal with it, or do you want to spend a little on some brake pads to prevent a problem. I’ve recommended Powerstop Z23 pads, many folks have used them and great results. They are a very quiet pad, the OEM pads make some graunch type noises, on release like when creeping, which is annoying sometimes.

Pros: quiet operation, good results
Cons: OEM pads noisy

I did a ton of research recently before doing my brakes and almost pulled the trigger on Hawk 5.0. Great overall reviews, but also people stating they make noise at slow speed, like parking lot maneuvering. Also they are great for street/track but for me who is 80% street and the rest canyon I got the feedback they are a bit aggressive for a mostly daily driver. I started looking into and ended up choosing Akebono, they honestly feel just like OEM, zero complaints, and way less dust of course.

Pros: OEM feel, low dust
Cons: noise at low speed

Akebono Brake pads

Akebono Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pads, very well known in the racing community to be the best of the best OE Replacement pads that run on your stock calipers. The only better pads than these require a full Brembo caliper conversion. Buy Japanese. More expensive, doesn't mean better. For reference: I drive a 2007 Subaru Forester, Akebono is the Original Manufacturer for the OEM "Subaru" Brake Pads from the factory.

Pros: best OE replacement, great performance
Cons: expensive

I have a 2010 x and have the drilled and slotted rotors up front and their calipers. I like their products so much I put them in my wife's 09 Pathfinder. Both z23/26 pads are great. Long life out of either. Used the products for the last 10ish yrs.

Pros: great, long life

Will they fit? Probably. But without the slot you can't use the anti-rattle springs. I purchased a set of Akebono's from ECS a few years ago and ended up sending them back because they don't fit as the car was designed to work (if that makes sense?).

Pros: fit as designed
Cons: missing anti-rattle spring slot
