Brake pads ATE or Zimmermann
For normal use, I recommend ceramic pads like ATE Ceramic, EBC green/red stuff or TRW D-TEC, since they're lower dust, and lower heat. Otherwise, go with Ferodo Premier eco friciton.
I bought the Zimmerman/Akebono kit when the E92 needed front brakes. I'm amazed how brake dust has been nearly eliminated and it has good bite.
I hate the brake dust and went with the Zimmerman/Akebono kit, it's amazing how clean the wheels have been since installing them.
ATE Ceramic pads and ATE disks are my go to because they are OEM, but a little extra performance on top. Zero complaints at all from me and they are quite reasonable price wise too
ATE ceramic. low dust and good braking
ATE make low dust pads that don’t need warming up like previous ceramic pads. I have them on my MK5 and they are great. Don’t have that annoying instant bite that stock pads do. Also they go forever
That's probably the kit I'd go with for my GLI. Again, as a daily driver... it meets the needs. The semi-metallic pads work good in many different temp ranges. However, semi-metallic pads also produce more brake dust, so you'll get more debris on your rotors faster. One of the other downsides is that they're more aggressive on the braking rotor because they're metallic, so you'll need to check your rotors more often for thinning.
Using ATE rotors and ceramic pads on my mk6. Very little dust. Still has very good bite compared to other standard OEM pads.
I bought the Zimmerman kit with ceramic pads from FCPEuro for $530 front and rear and did the work myself.
Even the parts prices are on a different level, ie brake pads with a Volvo logo on them - 160€, with ATE (they allegedly produce the original pads too) logo - 60€...
