Brake pads EBC or Akebono
Recently changed rear pads on 2020 XT. Akebono makes OEM pads. Can get Akebonos on RockAuto. Took less than 1 hour. Need hex socket. I think size is 7mm but don’t quote me on that. Guide pin torque is 18 ft-lbs. Brake hose bracket torque is 24 ft-lbs if you take it loose. Lug nut torque is 88 ft-lbs. I didn’t replace the rotors.
I run the Akebonos on my B8.5 S4 for my daily. I also had them on my A4. Great daily pads with minimal dust.
Just here to say I have them also, and they did quiet down. Remember these are a step up in the performance pad world so there are going to be trade-offs. They actually wish I had gone with a more aggressive pad but considering it's 99% street driving they are pretty great
Have you done some seriously hard braking to properly seat them? Go from like 60mph and hard brake down to 20 or a stop. Not so hard to activate the abs or lock em up, but hard hard. Do this a few times to help bed them in better. I have ebc reds and it seems like the dust does chill a little over time. They still have a heavy bite that not everyone appreciates when coming to the end of a stop. I kinda like it tho. Let’s me know they mean business. Would buy again.
I got their slotted rotors and red stuff pads. Installed them myself but had a strange kind of raspy grinding sound when braking. Figured it was just them breaking in. After a few days of this I decided to take the wheels back off and take a look. Turns out I had installed all 4 caliper clips backwards. Switching them around fixed the issue. Braking was pretty aggressive for the first week or two then smoothed out which they mention on the product page. Now it's quiet and smooth although more aggressive bite in then the oem pads, especially when cold.
The most budget+quality friendly package we offer is Akebono Brake Pads and Brembo Brake Disc.
EBC pads and rotors are good for normal or amateur competition use. As any other, just needs good bed in procedure. Their rotors are not drilled, which is great for normal street cars.
Akebono ceramic pads, they’re amazing.
Those look to be EBC "greenstuff" brake pads. "For spirited street use on lighter sports sedans and hot hatches, Greenstuff 2000 series is a perfect choice." They are made more for performance than driveability, they aee not really meant for your average daily driver. They are not bad pads, but they are intended more for the weekend racer. The pads will be noisy and harder on the rotors than regular pads. EBC also offers a red pad that is even more aggressive and intended strictly for track use.
Btw i did Akebono pads after replacing my rotors and it squealed really bad, ended up going to lexus dealer and had to get oem pads.
