Brake pads OEM Subaru or OEM Volkswagen
Since we had good luck with OE, went OE for replacements. So far, a few hundred miles in, all good.
I've done an almost complete overhaul on my bought-from-OG-owner low-k '07 B6 3.6 wagon. DSG from an R36, completely rebuilt suspension front to back on airbags, brakes, wrap, interior, sound system (the list goes on and on) for less than the purchase price of a used-by-who R36.
Have original brakes on it at 66000 miles.
The CPO contract goes into effect once I replace the worn brakes (pads and rotors) which can happen anytime- Service Rep said I can do it anytime but preferably soon (end of summer)- the brakes are fine to drive on now though
A set of euro ceramic pads is about $50, it's just not worth the drama for something so inexpensive right/wrong on VWs part. The DIY is v. simple but even if you pay a shop, it's an hour of labor to get on with your life.
its just the pad compound VW is using because everyone get emotional about excessive brake dust..
I don’t have warping or shimmy issues but above 50ish mph when braking I get this loud whirl or hum type of thing. It’s very loud it’s from the rear. I never had this issue on my s3 and it’s the same setup minus the pads. Not sure. I’m thinking of getting golf r or s3 pads and installing them.
I have an old groupe A Subaru homologation car. It’s on its 6th engine which is also currently blown. There are NO MORE ENGINES. NONE. ZERO. NADA. NOTHING. So now I have to buy a crashed wrx and swap the whole drivetrain over if I want the car to move under its own power. My frs just……… I mean…… 250 in brake pads and fluid, and 500 bucks in tires. Oh and a 90$ oil change before and after.
I have 4,800 miles on a 2023 MK8 and my brake pads are sticking to the rotors.
I’m not a mechanic by any means (I do try to work on my car myself for what I can fix and know how to do) but I’m gonna throw my own car under the bus and say VW. Why tf do I need specialized tools, and why do barely any after market parts fit my car?
