Brake pads Tesla or OEM Volkswagen
150,000 miles on a Model Y, cabin air filter a few times, tires, checked the brake pads recently, they were fine.
I owned a 2018 Model 3 Performance for ~80k miles and now a Lucid Air Touring with over 20k miles. Maintenance wise, I have spent money on a set of tires for the Tesla (let's call that $1500), brake pads and rotors on the Telsa ($600?) and windshield washer fluid. The Lucid has needed nothing over the past 17 months except for a tire patch.
well done vw for letting me get 77k out of the factory pads/rotors
Got the OEM brakes installed not too long ago and they’re definitely worth the install. Two year warranty with them at VW.
Looks like a good project. I would be concerned about what you described about the brakes. It could be alot of different things causing that issue.
Not an actual issue, but an annoyance: The brakes make weird sounds (like bad-transmission-in-a-transformers-movie- like warbling) and sometimes even feel grainy, but the vw mechanics can never identify anything wrong with them. It’s worse in the cold, but even happens in moderate weather.
Just did brakes and rotors in my 2022 model 3 with 189,000 km\nFirst big bill $3000
New Beetles are definitely underrated. They do have some weak points though. The Turbo S brakes are barely adequate for touge.
Tesla model 3 brakes are the worst of any 300+hp car I've driven and really need the regen braking. The iboost system is probably maxed out already thats why they "fixed"the long stopping distance with a software update. Driving @high state of charge you will notice the reduced braking power because of the lack of regen.
Before the software update, needing 7 feet more than a ford f150 from 60mph to complete stop was just ridiculous.
I’ve clocked 14k, and yes, I’ve already finished off my brake pads. Truth be told, I don’t really expect them to last longer since I drive quite aggressively. Now, the OEM pads cost roughly around 6k with labor. Honestly, I don’t think they’re worthwhile, as the braking feels noisy and lacks bite.
