I got genuine discs from ML performance for much much less than dealer prices, coupled with textar pads made to the same spec as M4 pads (M4 pads are also a drop in upgrade, I believe textar is OE for M4 pads), noticed minimal difference in performance though.
I do change oil and brake pads by myself for my xc60 and xc90.
I did change my F30 with Textar and it was plug n play. No need to go big if you don’t go on track days often imo.
I beat the hell out of some OE Textars in 110+ heat at Buttonwillow and they held up admirably. You don’t need anything more for the street.
I always had good results with textar and Zimmerman.
2021 Volvo xc40, $900 for front brake pads, rotors, cleaning and labor.
Volvo uses a softer compound. I think they call them comfort brakes or something? I would always get about 40k miles out of my pads on my XC90. I switched to an Acura MDX and got 140k miles out of my pads. Volvo brakes work really well but I’ve never had a set last really long time.
Canada here: paid around $700 CAD for rear brake pads and rotors at Canadian Tire back in May for my 2008 V70.
I replaced my brake pads with Textar pads and they are squealing so bad that it is embarrassing to drive it around town. If you are standing outside the car it hurts your ears. I had Porsche sand down the edges of the discs and this has helped a little but not to the point I am satisfied. Although the pads are only a month old I have decided to replace them with another brand.
Textar is hot garbage these days unfortunately
