Engine oil Castrol or FUCHS
My favorite is simply Castrol drive hard. I run it in all my engines except the VR.
The oil used by VW is made by Castrol. Of course, you can't buy it in any store.
I use 5w50 Castrol, just coats my rides power like white on rice!
The 3 vanagons I owned, seemed to do the best on GTX 20w50.
I stick to Castrol GTX 20W50. Use a Mann or Mahle filter only. Bosch if you're in a pinch.
The German-made Castrol 0W30 is an excellent oil. I would use it without hesitation.
I am using Castrol 0w-30 Synthetic. The Castrol distribuitor here in my country has a Audi A4 and he recomend to use 0w-30 synthetic. This oil meet VW specs. My dealer also recomend the same.
I was running Mobil1 5W30 and switched to Castrol Syntec 5W50...I noticed 2 things...first, the engine became a lot quieter...less ping sound...secondly, the gas mileage went up...
On my car (1992 SLC VR6) on a 100 degree humid summer day, I see a max of 260 degree Farenheit on my oil temp display. I'm running Castol (non-synthetic) 20w-50w in the summer, but I switch to 5w-30w or any of the less expensive 5w-xx oils during the winter. I've been doing this for 5 years now, changing the oil & filter every 3000 miles, and so far, no problems.
i pay 8 bux a liter for Castrol TWS MotorSport 10w60 oil...so, that's like 42 bux (after tax) for 5 liters, then next change i'll pay like like 29ish for 4 liters...since i have a half liter or more leftover from the last change... then like 6 bux for OEM filter, drain plug and seal... so...48 bux/35 bux per change for me, just for oil & filter...
