Engine oil Castrol or Lucas
SOOOO I've always used full synthetic way before most vehicles started recommending it from the manufacturer. I've ran mobile 1, royal purple, and a few others. When we got our 2007 Mazda 3 all of the records/receipts showed conventional Castrol was used. I've stuck with it to see how it do... I've increased the weight "one step" because we live in a hotter than average climate but we just hit 290k miles with not major issues... my average MPG is 31.x and I typically do 10 over the speed limit (so it could definitely be improved).I change it myself every 5k miles. I think the frequency is more important than the quality with oil. I'd rather have super tech every 3k than mobile 1 every 10k. I think if you stick with any major brand, use a good filter, and change it regularly you'll be fine.
AP1 164k miles using Castro edge high mileage 10w-30. In my experience it does not burn as much oil as Mobil 1
I use Castrol edge because it's rated for high temp engines and BMWs run towards the hotter side.
I’m running Castrol GTX Classic 20w-50. The classic one has the extra zinc, I think they make another GTX that doesn’t.
In my experience it pays to use the right oil and brand is important. I always use Castrol EDGE, but i am in a hot climate and i load up my engine.
I live in India and in my place temperature ranges between 5 degree C to 45 degree C and sometimes it touches 49-50 degree C, I put Castrol's synthetic engine oil in a 100CC motorcycle and response from engine felt a lot better, cold start in winters were less stressful and in summer rides, it never felt engine is losing its breath like it used to feel earlier.
I use something similar Castrol Edge 0w-30 European Formula on my 2014.
I use castrol 5w40euro but I’ve also used liquimoly 5w40 and it was also very good to me. Those are my go to’s but I’m sure many others have rec’d other good brands of 5w40 in comments.
Smedia had a video about this and he had more wear with less miles using Motul over Castrol in a Blackstone report. So for me just the convenience and price of Castrol edge I'd pick it over Motul. Knowing it had less wear wear was the nail in the coffin of buying overpriced and often several year old Motul.
Castrol. I've just always used it. A bit of advice though, i'd recommend staying away from Pennzoil, I had to clean an engine out after using it. Nasty, waxy stuff.
